Getting the right credit card gets you free lounge access. My departure from the UK to Zurich is significantly more pleasurable today.
Rather than pushing through the tourist hordes destined for Torremolinos, procrastinating over macaroni cheese or a bowl of nothing and generally feeling sorry for myself, I’m able to skip off to a choice of lounges.
I can’t locate my first choice (no under 12’s was swinging it) but finding the ‘Escape’ lounge seemed to do the trick. Salad with decent dressing, good expresso and most importantly free caramel shortbread. This could be the undoing of me … or my waistline at least.

We’re receiving almost more vegetables than we can deal with at present.
Last weeks tomatoes and more on the way.
Runner beans and French beans (we’ve had around 3kg so far) and apples coming soon.
… and on the way … lettuce and radicchio
Turnip (left) and leeks, Cabbage (right) and more potatoes to come.

Not far off track from Whitby on the way home is Rievaulx Abbey. I’d never heard of it until seeing a Dan Snow programme last week.
As you can see from the picture, top right, the monks had the same view as Therese and I.
Almost as impressive, huge portions of lunch for very little cash.
