Leaving Farringdon for Kings Cross (left) and the train arriving in York for Harrogate (right). Three hours after departure I’m home …
For the first time in ten days Therese and I are in the the house together. The bathroom is coming together.

Back from London. The living room has been repainted (insurance from the leaky pipe).
Our bathroom is outside …
Meanwhile, upstairs, work has commenced on the refit.
I set up home in one of the guest bedrooms … since it’s closer to the other bathroom. It’ll be another couple of weeks before work is finished … and still a few months before the house completes.

Well I’m sure the analogies are infinite.
However tonight it’s
Like if like wallpaper stripping because … you work hard for , chipping away at little sections then a big piece comes off.
… but then you’re back to the little sections …
And then the steam runs out.

After a good start, I appear to have slowed at the North face of the Eiger.
Well, the wallpaper stripping equivalent of the aforesaid Swiss mountain.
Two hours to complete around 3 metres. This means the hall won’t be stripped for another week at this rate.
On the plus side … an excuse for a glass of wine.

Uncovered during the wallpaper stripping … there clearly never used to be a bathroom where there is one now. The grey plaster covers an old door entrance.
We can’t work out whether the house was split in two vertically or by floor.

The main remedial work on the house is done. It’s dry and water tight. The living room and dining room are done (minus one plank of wood). The kitchen is sort of complete (minus some skirting and a couple of light bulbs). The bedrooms are complete. Sometime we’ll get around to the other rooms.
Saturday I touch up the walls in the kitchen, Therese starts to clear the courtyard of old roses and vines and after three months of neglect … I wash the car. Herbie does his bit by depositing 2 mice with us. Hannah does as little as possible.
Sunday it’s the gloss on the kitchen doors (why does there have to be three?), Therese burns most of the waste. Herbie is feeling quite insecure since we’ve had to lock him and Hannah out to avoid the paint – so compensates by providing 3 mice (albeit one looks very unmouse like). I guess the house across from us is now mouse central.
