After removing a little dust, it’s out to Ripon then over to Pateley Bridge. The run into Pateley Bridge is particularly good. Lots of hills, turns and straights, with excellent views of the North Yorkshire Dales.

We stop off for that hardened biker meal of earl grey tea and  fruit scone/tea cake. The place is full of bikers and …. boy scouts.

Meanwhile, on the other side of town … it was all going on.

We finally exchange on our house on Friday morning. Completion to follow some time down the line. On top of that the motorhome “hopefully” goes on Monday.

We face two problems

1. Getting the remaining bits and pieces for the motorhome (some extra screens and spare keys).

2. Finding somewhere to live temporarily.

Friday night we take a trip up to Edinburgh, where Abe and Morag have been custodians of the spare keys. We collect the, drink some wine, eat their food and stay the night.

Saturday morning, we collect some of the other bits from Edinburgh storage for the motorhome, drive back to Yorkshire, pick up keys for some temporary accommodation and undertake a couple of runs from the motorhome to this other place to get some essentials in (like tea).

Sunday, it’s “moving properly” time. Therese focuses on cleaning the motorhome inside. I focus on getting very wet in exceptionally bad rain and emptying the motorhome of all possessions, as well as collating the hundreds of manuals!

It take around 5 trips back and forward to complete … then the scooter … then the motorbike. By around 4pm, we’ve moved. Temporarily. The motorhome is ready to go.

Our time down South is over, for the time being. It’s flat – but it’s certainly warmer than much of the UK, with Therese and myself enjoying temperatures into the mid 20’s in recent days.

Yesterday we had a small repair done on the scooter. The wing mirror bolt hole thread needed renewed from considerable use in the last 8 months, given the scooter was in and out of the garage frequently. Another good reason to have the scooter – so far the repair bill has come to £23. £16 for the thread work, £7 for a puncture repair.

Now we’re heading North for a couple of repairs on the motorhome … and then onwards to a new career in a new town.

Symbolically, we stop at Watford Gap services briefly (above right). Upon departure, we’re officially in the provinces. And the North!

Mid afternoon we’re at Hartsholme Country park, Lincoln. Check in is painless as we’ve been earmarked a spot. A quick trip to the shops follows for some veg and bread. With the weather in the high 20’s, it’s a light soup and salad for dinner. Tomorrow our home goes in for some overdue repair.

Melrose

Morning. Back to Edinburgh to collect the motorhome. It’ll need to come back next week as they need a part to fix the airbag warning light. It doesn’t start – the battery is still low, so when we finally get it going I intend to keep it running.

It’s then over to our storage place in Edinburgh, where we spend a horrific couple of hours unpacking our cupboard, locating our winter clothes for skiing and packing away what we’ve collected going around the world, or have learned we don’t need in the motorhome. If we find any more things for storage, we’ll need more storage.

The scooter is collected, with battery charged. All loaded, it’s down to Melrose for the night. Arriving at 4pm, we’ve a lot of time to relax – and more importantly, get those batteries in the motorhome charging back up!

The scooter was collected at 9am this morning and wheeled by my good self on to the back of a truck. The driver didn’t speak English, and as you can guess my Spanish ain’t much better (though I had looked up tyre, wheel and replace).

In a twist of fate, he took me to Nerja, around 5 metres from where the bike had the puncture in the first place. There as a motorcycle and scooter repair centre there (though it would have been closed on Sunday anyway).

Sent off for three hours, I read. When I returned it was fixed. Cost? 7 euro. We had planned to move West today but given we wouldn’t arrive anywhere now until late afternoon, we’re staying another day on site.
