New stop tap inserted on drive. It isolates that dodgy external lead tap. However, it doesn’t isolate the house supply.

Amazingly (to me anyway), the whole procedure only took around an hour.

Immediate problem solved. On to Yorkshire Water on Monday.

Leak … again!

2010-09-10 18.04.37 2010-09-10 18.04.46

Friday night. I have pre-birthday bath. Except when I stop the taps running, there’s still a high pressure running noise.

Therese runs downstairs. The water is coming through the ceiling and cornicing. I rip the edging of the bath and underneath a pipe has separated. Luckily there’s a stop valve a few centimetres from the break. I hold the pipes together whilst Therese gets me  flat blade screwdriver. The water still comes through, but with a decreased flow

Screwdriver arrives, water is stopped. We now have no cold water for the shower, so it’ll be baths for a while.

Meanwhile, downstairs, it’s evident the walls are completely soaked. This is definitely an insurance job.

Oh, well. At least it’s been located. No more wondering where the water was disappearing to. Now need to get through some of that cement to the pipes.

Great pleasure taken using my new copper pipe cutter to remove the leaky regulator.

Great pain getting the final joint to seal properly … 3 attempts and a James Bond style “will it seal with my last spare washer?”.

Normal shower service is hopefully resumed.

Saturday is elected as gardening day, with the prediction of the weather being worst today.

That all changes around 8AM when water starts to appear on the living room ceiling. We have a leak under the bath.

Easy to fix … looks like a valve has just got itself in a mess and needs adjusted. Unfortunately that’s not the case … it’s a leaking regulator for the shower. Which means, until we get it fixed, adjusting the valve by fumbling under the floorboards when we want a shower. :-(

Unplanned chore out the way,  we get a considerable amount of weeding and planting done. A trip to the gym follows then cocktails, wine and home made asian food.

Next day it’s off early (after playing with the valves for the shower) to the North Yorkshire Moors. The weather holds out enough to give us mild sunburn.

ingleby

Ingleby to the moors, along the Cleveland way, down to Battersby and back.  Around 7.5 miles. Followed by a pint.

We have Cheryl and Paul coming round this evening. The guest bathroom doesn’t have a working shower after having the electrical one disconnected in November as part of the rewiring work.

Last night I spotted the old “mains” shower still appeared to have it’s basic connections in place. Moving the shower head over, a quick turn of the handle demonstrated it was working. Excellent. We now had an extra shower.

So, back to Saturday evening. Our guests arrive … clearly in need of a shower following a long cycle. They vanish for twenty minutes. We expect them to resurface, clean.

What we are confronted with is a cascade of water from the bathroom ceiling , the dreadful glass light hanging by it’s power cable and a shorted power supply. Dodgy plumbing is the order of the day. A quick look up in the loft indicates the potential culptit .. a pipe without a stop end.
